SOLAR BEST PRACTICES

Now that you have gone solar, here are some reminders that will help ensure that you get the greatest savings possible.

Know which items are likely to consume the most energy and be mindful of when and how often you use them.   This includes the Washer, Dryer, AC, Electric Stove, ceiling fans, computers, pool pumps, electric pool heaters, etc.  Use "high-consumption devices" when the sun is out and outside of utility peak times. (i.e. APS' peak times are between 4pm and 7pm.)

While we all want to be comfortable, we also want to spend less money.  A two-degree difference in temperature could mean about a $50 difference per month on utility costs.

Did you know that besides Air Conditioning, a pool pump and an electric heater are the largest drivers of high electricity consumption?  Consider the following two scenarios:

  1. Heating your 10,000 gallon pool from 60 to 90 degrees with an electric heater can add $100 or more to your utility bill for a single weekend.  Maintaining this temperature for a month may add $400 to your bill.  So plan your winter pool parties wisely.

  2. Pool pumps need to run about eight hours a day according to pool experts.  However, to save on electricity costs it’s all about when the pumps are running and also the RPMs of the pump.   Usually it’s wise for pumps to run between 8:00am and 4:00pm.  Also, if you have a variable speed pump you may want to consider having the speed set to around 2000 RPMs instead of 3000 or higher.

It's a good practice to stagger the use of high consumption devices.  In other words, don't use large appliances and such simultaneously but one after the other instead.  Depending on your rate plan, you could see a high demand charge if you are using big items all at the same time.

As you may have heard, APS rates have increased as of March 8th, 2024.  (See APS Press Release)How does this impact you?  This will negatively impact your APS bill for any portion of electricity that you purchase from them.  Therefore, be extra mindful of when they charge the most for their power.  Here is the link that show’s what APS is charging for their power:  APS Rates

Please take advantage of the Solar Referral program and put money directly in your pocket.  For every referral that you send to us that signs up for solar you will receive a $250.00 Check!  In addition, the person you refer will receive a $250.00 check at the time of installation!   To get started click the link below.
